What psychometric assessment is
Psychometric assessment uses standardised, validated instruments to measure things that are otherwise judged by impression: cognitive ability, personality traits, values, motivation and behavioural style. The value is not the questionnaire — it is the norming. A score only means something against a comparison group, and interpreting it correctly is a regulated professional skill rather than a software output.
Australia has no restriction on who may sell a personality questionnaire. It does have a clear standard on who should interpret one. Instruments in the restricted categories may only be administered and interpreted by appropriately qualified practitioners, and a registered psychologist is the safest answer to that requirement.
What we assess
For organisations: cognitive ability and reasoning, personality and work style, values and motivational drivers, and role fit against a defined competency profile. For individuals: the same instruments, used to answer a personal question — a career change, a decision between paths, or understanding a pattern that keeps recurring at work.
We do not use an instrument because it is fashionable. The assessment battery is chosen against the decision you are actually making, and we will tell you when psychometrics is the wrong tool for the question.
How an engagement runs
We start by defining the decision and the role or question behind it. The battery is then selected and administered, online or in our rooms. Interpretation is done by a psychologist against appropriate norms, not generated automatically.
You receive a written report that states what was measured, what the results indicate, the confidence attached to them, and what they do not tell you. A feedback session follows — with the candidate, the individual or the hiring manager, depending on the engagement. Candidates are entitled to feedback on their own results, and we provide it as standard.
Ethics, privacy and fairness
Assessment results are personal information and, where they touch on health, sensitive information. They are stored under the same conditions as clinical records, kept only as long as the purpose requires, and never shared with a third party without consent.
Instruments are selected with attention to fairness across language background, neurodivergence and disability, and reasonable adjustments are made on request. A result is one input into a decision, never the decision itself, and reports are written so that a non-specialist cannot mistake one for the other.
Rebates and cost
Psychometric assessment for recruitment, selection or organisational development is a commercial service and is not Medicare-rebatable. Better Access funds individual treatment for a diagnosed condition, which is a different thing.
Where assessment forms part of clinical work — for example cognitive screening within a treatment episode — the usual session arrangements apply. Fees are scoped and confirmed in writing before any work begins.
