How we work

How we write and review our guides

Who writes them, which sources we use, how often they are checked, and how to tell us when something is out of date.

In short

Every guide on this site is written and clinically reviewed by Dr. Peter Saunders, a psychologist registered with AHPRA (PSY0001127068) and endorsed in clinical psychology. Factual claims about Medicare, referrals and registration are sourced to MBS Online, Services Australia and the Psychology Board of Australia, linked on each page, and reviewed at least annually.

Who writes and reviews

Guides are written and clinically reviewed by Dr. Peter Saunders, Director and Clinical Psychologist. His registration can be checked on the AHPRA public register: registration number PSY0001127068, general registration, endorsed in the approved area of practice of clinical psychology, first registered 17 March 2008.

Where a guide covers an area another clinician leads — family and systemic work, psychometric assessment — that clinician reviews it before publication. The reviewer is named on the page, with the date.

What we treat as a source

For anything involving money, eligibility or regulation we use the primary source rather than a summary of it:

  • Medicare item numbers, benefit amounts and session limits — MBS Online, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing
  • Safety net thresholds and claiming mechanics — Services Australia
  • Registration, endorsement and supervision requirements — the Psychology Board of Australia and AHPRA
  • Treatment recommendations — national clinical guidelines, including Phoenix Australia for PTSD

Every such claim carries a link to the source it came from, listed on the page rather than buried. If we cannot source a number, we do not publish it.

What we do not publish

No invented statistics. No success rates, recovery percentages or "9 out of 10 clients" claims — these are unverifiable for a private practice and are prohibited in health advertising under section 133 of the National Law. No testimonials about clinical services, which the same section prohibits for regulated health practitioners in Australia. No comparative claims about other practices. No content generated and published without a clinician reading it.

How often guides are reviewed

Every guide carries a visible review date and a machine-readable one in its structured data. Guides covering Medicare amounts are reviewed whenever the MBS is indexed — ordinarily each 1 July — and all guides are reviewed at least once a year regardless. A guide that has not been reviewed within twelve months is either updated or removed.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, out of date, or reads as advice when it should read as information, tell us at info@psychologywellbeingconsulting.com.au. We will check it against the primary source and correct it, and where the change is material we will note the date it changed.

The limits of what you read here

These guides are general information. They are written to help you understand a system — referrals, rebates, what a first session involves — not to assess or treat you, and they cannot account for your circumstances. Nothing on this site creates a therapeutic relationship.

If you are in crisis, call Lifeline on 13 11 14, or 000 in an emergency.
