What systemic work means
Systemic therapy treats the relationship as the client. Rather than deciding who is at fault, the work maps the pattern the two of you fall into — what triggers it, what each person does next, and what keeps it circling — and then changes the pattern rather than the people.
That makes it useful for recurring arguments that never resolve, for couples in a long stalemate, and for parents who are pulling in different directions.
Coming as a couple in the city
Two people arriving separately from two offices is the norm, not an inconvenience. Our rooms are on Queen Street between Flinders Lane and Collins Street, so it is a walk from most of the CBD and a short one from Flinders Street Station, and the Collins and Flinders Street tram stops are a block either side and inside the Free Tram Zone.
Where schedules do not line up, sessions can run by video with each person joining from where they are — less ideal than one room, but better than a cancelled appointment.
Cost and referrals
Because relationship sessions are not individual services, they fall outside Better Access and no Medicare rebate applies. The upside is that nothing is required to start — no GP visit, no plan, no referral. Private health extras that cover psychotherapy may contribute; check with your fund.
