Eco Psychology
Nature-based therapy and guided outdoor workshops for wellbeing and reconnection.
Eco psychology takes seriously what most people already sense: that time in the natural world changes how we feel and think. Sessions and workshops use the outdoors deliberately — for reflection, mindfulness and perspective — rather than as a pleasant backdrop.
Amelia McDermott views self-awareness through mindfulness and a deeper connection to nature as important factors in improving wellbeing, and offers individual coaching alongside guided nature-based workshops.
This work suits people who feel disconnected, over-stimulated, or who find a conventional consulting room hard going.
What to expect
Sessions and workshops use outdoor settings with a defined therapeutic purpose for each one, rather than as a pleasant backdrop. Attention and grounding practices are learned in an environment that supports them, then carried into ordinary weeks.
How many sessions will I need?
Individual coaching runs as a block agreed with you at the outset. Guided nature-based workshops are booked separately. Neither is Medicare-rebatable, so the structure is set by what you want rather than by a referral.
Evidence base
Source: psychology.org.au
Nature-based sessions here are delivered by a registered psychologist and combine mindfulness-based practice with positive psychology. Research on the wellbeing effects of time in natural environments is developing, and we describe this work as a mindfulness and coaching approach rather than a guideline-recommended treatment for any diagnosis.

Questions about Eco Psychology
Is eco psychology a substitute for therapy?
No. Where you have a diagnosed condition, guideline-recommended treatment comes first. This work suits stress recovery, reconnection and maintaining a mindfulness practice, and runs alongside conventional therapy rather than replacing it.
Does Medicare cover nature-based sessions?
Coaching and workshops are not Medicare-rebatable. Where you hold a Mental Health Care Plan for a diagnosed condition, standard consulting-room or telehealth sessions attract the rebate instead.
What happens if the weather is poor?
Sessions move indoors or reschedule by agreement. Melbourne weather is factored into how these are booked.
